HOLLYWOOD comes to Jersey

Courtesy of actor/writer/director Emilio Estevez, harness racing will garner national publicity via the upcoming movie JOHNNY LONGSHOT in which harness racing will serve as a backdrop for an inspiring story.  Click here for more info.

Have read the script and it’s terrific. To quote Mr. Estevez, Rocky, was more about the story than the actual boxing whereas Johnny Longshot will indeed tell a story.

Fortunately it’ll be an almost two hour commercial illustrating much of what is great in racing.

REVENUE SHARING

Have often wondered if we should be emulating the NFL by equally sharing the incoming casino revenues amongst the different venues, instead of the current top heavy situation in which tracks and breeding industries in certain states thrive, while those in non-casino areas are left to their own devices.

Speaking of REVENUE, you send a stallion packing and he immediately perks right up. Not only did Revenue (now in Norway) sire last year’s Hambletonian winner Market Share but have you noticed how many Revenues have been prominent in fast class events thus far this season.

Unfortunately not all of his get are precocious 2 and 3-year-olds but one gets the impression that down the road his legacy will thrive through his daughters being prominent in many a future standout pedigree.

ROCKY MISSED

Rocknroll Hanover may be gone but he still has an upcoming big yearling crop, an upcoming big crop currently foaling and by year’s end will have impregnated a number of mares for next year.

The Rocknroll Hanover’s that do foal in 2014 will have Pennsylvania Sire Stakes eligibility in addition to eligibility to the newly installed New Jersey development program.

In addition, his large 2-year-old crop for 2013 will be baby racing shortly and chances are there will be a superstar or two among them.

Perretti Farms Has the Fever, Kentucky Derby Fever
Bill Finley

With the standardbred breeding business in New Jersey suffering through tough times, Perretti Farms knew it had to make some changes. That meant moving the Perretti stallions to Pennsylvania, and it also meant giving another racing game a chance.
