ROCK N ROLLS MAKE SUPERB AGED HORSES

In addition to his bevy of top stakes 2 and 3-year-olds, it’s becoming increasingly apparent that those sons and daughters of Rocknroll Hanover not sent to the breeding shed at the close of their colt and filly seasons, will indeed make superb and hard hitting aged performers at all class levels.

Item, one Saturday at The Meadowlands, Rocknroll Hanover accounted for FOUR winners on what was ostensibly an overnight card and just missed a fifth winner by a scant neck or so.

The season’s richest race to date the $117,000 RAGS TO RICHESS FINAL was won by Rocking Glass a son of Rocknroll Hanover who actually raced for a claiming tag earlier this year.

Prominent in the Blue Chip Matchmaker at Yonkers is Rocklamation as a 4-year-old this season.

At present, Rocknroll Hanover is the leading money winning sire of pacers despite having no foals older than five.

His leading 3-year-old son AROCKNROLL DANCE won his qualifier by 18 lengths at Hoosier in 1:55.2 but he won’t see a betting race until the New Jersey Sire Stakes kicks in on May 19th.

Early looks at the freshman stake nomination lists suggest that projected 2-year-old crop is on target as many of last year’s impressive sales alumni have been paid in.

While the book of Rocknroll Hanover is filling up at present, there are still ample breedings available.  Given the upbeat climate at The Meadowlands these days under the stewardship of Jeff Gural and the projected turmoil at other locations, the New Jersey sired Rocknroll Hanover foaled in 2013 could prove to be a bargain investment at his reduced 2012 stud fee of $15,000.

McARDLE LEADING PERCENTAGE SIRE

McArdle proved the leading percentage sire of 1:53 2-year-olds in 2011 as seven of his freshman performers graced that elite listing.

McArdles fastest BIG McDEAL (Ideal Gal) p,2,1:50.2 became the first filly to defeat the previously unbeaten American Jewel at the Red Mile last October.

Other sub 1:53 McArdles include I LIKE DREAMIN (I’m Not Dreamin) p,2,1:51.4,  McBoogie (Banksa Bela),p,2,1:52f, Malinka (Night Life) p,2,1:52.3f, McSauna (Steamy Place) p,2,1:52.4f, So Easy Baby (So Easy) p,2,1:53f and McERLEAN (Igottwowordsforyou) p,2,1:53.

Of those all but Big McDeal, were prominent on the rich Pennsylvania sires circuit as the Jack Darling trained filly stayed strictly on the grand circuit trail in Ontario and The Red Mile.

It stands to reason that if accumulating some Keystone state Sires Stakes loot is the intention, a McArdle colt or filly is a good place to start.

In that three of the top seven McArdles were from Perretti Farm mares, one might note that our final yearling crop to be sold this fall will feature several choice youngsters by the “leading percentage sire” McArdle.

McArdle remains entrenched at Lindwood Farms in Pennsylvania for the approachable fee of $5,000.

YEARLINGS NAMED AND REGISTERED

The final crop of Perretti Farms yearlings totaling 118 colts and fillies have been named and registered and will be posted on this site shortly.

These colts and fillies will be sold this autumn at our customary yearling venues and as expected there’s a strong allotment by farm mainstays Rocknroll Hanover and Muscles Yankee.  Rocknroll Hanover (Western Ideal-Rich N Elegant) is generally considered the optimum pacing stallion on the market today while veteran Muscles Yankee achieved stratospheric ranking by siring no less than THREE consecutive Hambletonian champions in Deweycheatumnhowe, Muscle Hill and Muscle Massive.

There will also be several Pennsylvania eligible youngsters by Art Official, (Art Major), the only horse ever to defeat Somebeachsomewhere and a smattering of Ontario eligible Shadow Play youngsters-he being the other outstanding colt of that great season. The Somebeachsomewhere colt SOMEWAVESOMEWHERE is out of Just Add Water, a sister to last year’s stellar 2-year-old Simply Business from Cathedra Dot Com

The offering will also feature several by established sire leaders Bettors Delight, Art Major, Donato Hanover, American Ideal, Western Ideal, McAdle and Real Desire in addition to a couple by first crop hopefuls Muscle Hill and Explosive Matter.

The 2012 yearling crop represents perhaps our most comprehensive offering ever.

FAVORITES

Now that the sales are over, getting anxious to follow the crop of 2011 particularly Rocknroll Hanovers several of which represented perhaps the best yearlings their dams had thus produced.

Among them were Rockin Romo (Art Amour), Shock N Rock (Fox Valley Shaker), Rocky Mountain Guy (Camadian), Hollyrock Heyden (Captain Holly), O Solo Cleo (Hurrikane  Cleo)  Predatory Male (Promysquous Lady) Orcastrate (Lovely Shark) Woodrock Nation (Wendy M Hanover) and Masada Rocks (Lady Mattgalane).

Best of luck to the new owners as we look forward to monitoring what should be exciting careers.

THE GAMBLE

Governor Christie was quoted in the authoritative Newark Star Ledger as quipping “If Atlantic City can’t get its act together, we’ll have to revisit placing gaming at The Meadowlands.”

This may not happen for a couple of years but herein lies-“The Gamble” as mares bred to Rocknroll Hanover and Muscles Yankee this year are part of the following scenario.

Mares bred in 2012 foal in 2013, become eligible to be sold in 2014 and eligible to race in 2015.

By that time the climate in New Jersey could be altogether different than it is now and it’s eminently possible the Rocknroll Hanovers and Muscles Yankees could have a virtual Sire Stakes monopoly in what could be a slots enhanced program.

And that therein is the gamble! If one believes and many in New Jersey do- that Atlantic City is no longer capable of getting it’s “act together” due to neighboring State completion from Pennsylvania and New York, then one might reap unexpected rewards from the New Jersey stallions in the immediate future.

Actually it’s almost a sure thing as worst case scenario you’re still getting a Rocknroll Hanover or Muscles Yankee colt or filly at a reduced price which in itself is an accomplishment. And by the time it reaches racing age it might indeed have enhanced racing opportunities not necessarily apparent at this point.
