SO WHATS THE STORY
Its wonderful learning that Harrington handled a record
$938,821 last Tuesday but that unfortunately is a HEADLINE
not the actual story. It would be far better to know how
it was broken down like how much on track? How much off
track etc?
WHATS IN A NAME
KVETCH HANOVER daughter of KIBITIZER HANOVER. Another all
time great name from Hanover’s Russell Williams…
MORE BLANK SCREENS
As good as it was HEARING Sam McKee’s audio call of
the near record 1:55.1 time trial by the Dream Vacation
filly Banza Hanover it would have been far better to have
actually SEEN IT visually instead being forced to view the
graphic screen on display. What happened? Someone neglected
to push the play video button perhaps?
Remember that’s what they’re seeing in simulcast
land!
Always thought the Futurity appropriately curtained the
Lexington experience. The way it is now makes the second
week somewhat anti climactic.
If the TATTERSALLS PACE is to emerge as a truly classic
event it must either be an appropriately pursed single dash
or utilize the heats format in which the winner must win
two. Otherwise it’s a rehashing of The Bluegrass and
odds on not to achieve the match up everyone was anticipating.
Would any of those Allerage eligibles have beaten American
Ideal on Futurity day?
There’s no question that the 3-year-old pacing pendulum
has shifted over to a thoroughbred Triple Crown slant with
the major money events like the North American Cup and Meadowlands
pace so early in the season. Like the runners what comes
afterwards for the glamour boys has morphed into the second
season.
The trotting season commences on Hambletonian day and is
still in full swing by Lexington time.
SOME COME TO THINK OF ITS
Come to think of it is there any reason not to disclose
the clientele list of those vets under suspension from the
Ontario Racing Commission? Or doesn’t the public have
a right to know? And don’t we have any investigative
reporters left in the industry?
Why wasn’t that RUNAWAY trotter scratched? He probably
went almost an extra heat prior to regrouping for that belated
restart which was hardly equitable to the betting public.
As it was, he trotted maybe half a mile in the actual race
before succumbing to exhaustion.
Given the shroud of secrecy that precluded announcement
of THE DISPERSAL, could we assume that perhaps someone suspected
disclosure might negatively impact THE YEARLING SALE?
HOOF BEATINGS
Don’t like. Absolutely LOVE the direction HOOF BEATS
has taken under the stewardship of Executive Editor Nicole
Kraft. The October issue was a GEM especially with all the
human interest stuff.
Clint Eastwood as Bob McIntosh? I can see that!
More next week.
Bob Marks.
