SALES YEARLINGS ON SITE
Click on chronologicals 2005 for a complete listing of this year’s Perretti Farms yearling crop and the sales they’ve been assigned to. While most will be available at our usual roost in Harrisburg, we do have a solid consignment at the upcoming GARDEN STATE SALE at THE NEW JERSEY HORSE PARK in September. For those who haven’t seen the Horse Park lately it has undergone major renovations and is a terrific facility to host a horse sale.

Rest assured Garden State General Manager Dale Welk and his crew will have all the amenities super shipshape and operational come September.

We’ll be prepping our 17 horse consignment to The Garden State Sale at the New Jersey farm which is just 10 driving minutes from the horse park. Those yearlings featuring Artiscape Life Sign and Matt’s Scooter pacers and Dream Vacation and Enjoy Lavec trotters will be available for inspection at the farm from mid-August to sales weekend.

The Harrisburg yearlings will be prepped here as always come September..

KAREN TELLS IT LIKE IT IS
To quote a departed sports broadcasting legend famed for “telling it like it was”, someone named KAREN in direct response to TROT MAGAZINE’s state of the industry issue has rather ominously spelled out like it is in direct response to the question Where have all the young people gone?

Basically she cited dismay after learning from “customer service” that a rationale for certain non winners races was for “owners to protect their horses”.

She went on to cite that while this policy may be understandable but at “What expense to the handicapper?”

She stipulated that “You might get away with insulting the older generations with your assine conditions but you won’t with my generation”.

While Karen may or may not be an anointed spokesperson for her generation she does an injustice to the older generations whose numbers have dwindled so dramatically in the last two decades. Obviously so many of the elders like Karen and her “generation” have decided to take their money elsewhere as well.

Can’t wait to read the rebuttals.

BLUE MAC LAD
Looks like Trond Smedshammer has himself a very nice trotting colt prospect in Blue Mac Lad (Muscles Yankee-Vernon Blue Chip) who won his New Jersey Sire Stakes edition by some seven lengths in 1:58.1 on a very sloppy surface. He’s got a ways to go before emulating his namesake Su Mac Lad but off last week seems headed in the right direction. We’ll monitor his progress

JERSEY DREAMING
California ain’t the only place for Surfer Girls. Didja notice the Dream Vacation New Jersey Sires Stakes filly division winners the other day? Among them the aforementioned COLOR SCHEMES (Dream Vacation-Paisley Yankee) who followed up last week’s Landmark success with a 1:59.1 New Jersey Sires Stakes win at The Meadowlands to remain undefeated. Color Schemes a $2,300 yearling purchase by celebrated “bargain hunter” John Wagner famed for his discovering Mr Muscleman ($2,000) and Elegant Man ($4,000) from the first crops of Muscles Yankee and Malabar Man respectively.

The other Dream Vacation winner was WHERLEY (Dream Vacation-Cnivel) a repeat stakes winner having also won a Landmark Stake at Goshen last week.

Nice article by colleague Bob Pandolfo (Pandy) concerning the state of affairs at Yonkers Raceway and harness racing in general. Much of it has been said before but the message has a nice touch of poignancy and one has to wonder just how much comprehension and vision the decision makers really had back when things were better. Good article. Worth reading and worth repeating!

Great picture of a packed house at Freehold in 1968 featured in this week’s Horseman magazine. Don’t know whether or not I was there but the most striking aspect of the photo is the sea of heads focused on the action about to unfold on the racetrack. Which as La Streisand so poignantly rhapsodized was indeed “The Way We Were”

Hey Jimmy Tolson. Got a good draw with MATTIOS (Matt’s Scooter-Armbro Vamoose) in the Sires Stakes final on Wednesday. She was very game last week despite getting nailed by the impressive Mythical in last week’s second leg…. He might carry the Seelster name but MATTSCAPE SEELSTER (Artiscape-Mattjestic) is indeed one of ours as he was in the belly when we sold his dam at Harrisburg. Mattjestic (Matt’s Scooter-Nadia Lobell) has a license to throw a good one which Mattscape Seelster does appear to be…

Get ready Dave Palone your namesake PALONE RANGER (Western Ideal-Mercy Mercy Mercy) looked good qualifying on Saturday finishing with a good burst of energy.

On tap The Dancer and Delvin Miller finals and The Perretti Matchmaker on Friday with The Meadowlands Pace on Saturday. Hopefully DENNIS won’t interfere as the leftovers from CINDY so obviously did last week.
